The Solar Eclipse

Today at Saint Paul's School we had an eclipse.
We got to have a look at the eclipse with a special type of glasses. The moon blocks little bits of the sun. It goes a bit darker and colder and when the eclipse finishes it gets hotter and goes back to normal. I forgot to tell you that don't look at the sun even though you think it is OK, but it isn't good for your eyes. That is why you have to wear the special glasses.
Today  it looked really cool and the sun looked orange when you looked through the special glasses. Tysen

Zeebong- teller of tales!

The Visit of Zeebong
On Friday a storyteller named Zeebong came to visit Saint Paul’s School. He told lots of exciting stories to Tui class and they were fantastic. We loved it! He used a colourful quilt to retell his stories.
The quilt was beautiful. Some lucky people got to choose a pattern on the quilt and he told a story about that pattern. He chose different people to act out the stories and he made them sound so funny. Each story had different actors and they got to act out different parts. We couldn’t choose the story we loved the best. It was sad to say goodbye.
We hope he will come again.

Book Week

Book Parades are fun!
It is a parade of a book character. We had our book parade on Friday at our school on the Junior Court. The classess went around the court. You dress up as a book character. The classes went around the court in time with the music and then the teachers chose the best characters. A book parade is very fun!

Book Parades are very awesome!
A book parade is when you dress up as a book character. The book parade was in the morning and out at the Junior Court on Friday. You have to dress up as a book character and this year it is a Margaret Mahy book character. I would lke another book parade next year.

Fun Toys and Games Afternoon!

What better way to finish the term with a fun toys and games afternoon!
Look what we brought to share and have fun with...

Balancing within Maths too.

Tui class used balance scales, spring scales, bathroom scales and kitchen scales to weigh various things and learn how much a kilogram weighs. We pushed and pulled large containers to see which was heavier. We hung objects from a bulldog clip and elastic to see how far it stretched compared to other things. By the end of the unit we were getting much better at estimating and ordering weights up to around a kilogram.

Time flies when you are having fun!

Measuring Time in mathematics has been a blast. We have learned how to read some analogue and digital times. We began adding hours and half hours onto these times too. At the end of the unit we showed our learning in a fun way, by making outdoor clocks and placing wooden hands into the correct places to make the said times.
